The 501 and 502 was the main breed of BMW vehicles from 1952 until 1961 years. They were called the "Baroque Angels" ("Barockengel") due to their baroque-like curves.
The 501 has upgraded version of the pre-war 2.0 litre V6, and in 1954 this was updated by a 2.6 litre V8. In 1954 BMW 502 was introduced which carried a new 3.2 litre V8 or the same uprated 2.6 litre V8. In 1957 BMW offered 502 'Super' with 3.2 litre V8.
