The BMW 5 series E60 was introduced to the North American market in 2004. The style of the new 5 series was inspired from the BMW 7 series E65 from interior to exterior, just like the E34 was inspired from E32 and E39 from E38.
One of the most interesting designs added to the new BMW 5 series was Active Front Steering (AFS), which varies the ratio of steering at different speeds. AFS ratio range varies from 10-1 to 20-1; this ratio not only factors into safety but also improve driving dynamics on the race track. This technology currently can only be found on the BMW 5 series E60 models.
